How We Built a 7 Foot Push Pin Topiary for a Corporate Event

Seven foot tall topiary sculpture shaped like a giant push pin, covered in faux boxwood greenery on a bark textured trunk, standing on a round artificial grass base

Brand shapes make great event decor when they're turned into something unexpected. For a major tech company's event, a planner asked us to build a giant push pin as a living looking topiary.

Quick specs

  • Size: 7 feet tall
  • Topiary: layered foam, carved to shape and covered in faux boxwood greenery
  • Trunk: rigid plastic tube wrapped in a custom printed bark vinyl
  • Base: durable wood base covered in artificial grass
  • Investment: about $1,700

How it was built

We started with layers of foam, stacked and carved into the push pin profile. Then came the part that gives it the real topiary look: placing faux boxwood greenery into the foam by hand, piece by piece, until the shape was fully covered and even.

Watch us place the greenery by hand.

The trunk is a rigid plastic tube that we wrapped in a custom printed vinyl to look like tree bark. Everything sits on a sturdy wood base covered in artificial grass, which keeps the piece stable at 7 feet tall and hides the hardware.

Where a custom topiary fits

Shaped topiaries work well at entrances, photo areas, and along walkways. They read as natural decor from across the room, and up close guests realize the shape is a logo or brand icon. Faux greenery also means no watering, no wilting, and a piece that can be stored and used again.
